A Benchmark certificate is the record completed by the installer confirming that a boiler has been correctly installed, commissioned and handed over. Manufacturers generally require it for the warranty to be valid.
Why it matters
Because the warranty is a large part of what you paid for.
A boiler sold with a ten-year warranty and installed without the Benchmark completed may leave you with no warranty at all. That surfaces years later, when something fails and the manufacturer asks for the documentation.
What it records
Installation details, commissioning readings, the system flush, and the handover. There are also sections for subsequent annual services, which is worth knowing, because most warranties require the boiler to be serviced annually to remain valid.
What to do
Ask for it before making the final payment, not afterwards. Check it is completed and signed, not blank.
Then confirm separately that the warranty has been registered with the manufacturer, which is a different step. Both need to have happened.
